Who you calling Grinchy?
I'm not going to go into the details about what I hate about this holiday season...been there done that...suffice it to say the list for the most part remains intact but I thought I should make an announcement:
For some reason this year, I don't hate it to the degree that I used to.
And what happened then...?
Well...in Who-ville they say
That the Grinch's small heart
Grew three sizes that day
My mom and I were on the phone the other day, talking about the challenges I experienced in putting up my very first living holiday tree. I told her very honestly that if I had had this experience last year I would have dragged the tree out to the front yard, soaked it in gasoline and set the sonofabitch on fire.
I'm so not kidding.
But this year...unexplainably...I don't have the deep hate and anger for the season like I used to. There are still materialistic, greedy, cashmere sweater whoring shoppers that I want to bitch slap but overall, I'm cool with the holiday this year and for the life of me I can't explain why.
So there you have it - a reformed ChristmasKathyHowe.
How are you feeling about the holidays this year?

I confess that I love the holidays. I love to go shopping just to see the decorations. And I also like all the stupid shit they put out only this time of year-- I am a sucker for mittens, scarves, and Christmas-themed coffee mugs, eggnogg, extra sweets, kitschy Christmas movies, all of it.
But I do temper my love for the season by donating to good organizations that help people (I do this throughout the year, but I do it more at Christmas).
Shit. That's right. Jen told me that Christmas is coming.
totally slipped my mind again.
Love Christmas. Love the Solstice. Love the Yule. Love the twinkly lights and the warm glow of my house.
But mostly I love the sound of heavy snowfall at midnight. Love that.
This is a nice side of you, but will it take?
I fear Walmart Salvation Army bell-ringers might be in danger of cowering behind bitch-slapped cashmere sweater whoring shoppers to evade the smile and "try me" look in Kathy Howe's eye on her way to the produce section.
Wow, Iki is rather poetic!
Me? Meh. That's how I feel about the holidays this season. ;)
I'm feeling unusually Xmas cheerful (which is not saying much). I think it's got a lot to do with my being happy, for once.
