Tis the season to not be a greedy, selfish, materialistic bastard
KathyHowe does not like the Christmas season.
Now that we have officially entered into December it is my job as the author of this blog to remind you that there are people in your community that cannot afford Christmas for their own families.
There are parents that cannot afford to feed their children.
Their are children that do not have gloves and boots and jackets to wear at the bus stop each morning.
While you are out with your Christmas lists looking for the perfect leather jacket for your grandma remember that grandma probably has a closet full of jackets while someone else's grandma has NONE.
Start thinking NOW about what you can do for the people in your community that are struggling to get by each and every day.
Tis the season to get off yer kazoofus and give.

Can I get an AMEN SISTA!?
True, but it might be the case Americans are tapped out this year on good will giving after the tusunami and two hurricanes. Also witnessing how a lot of that charity money is spent (free debit cards, hotel rooms, wasted contractor purchases, all range of graft).
I get solicited all the time by mail, phone, internet, and store people ringing bells.
I agree with you that charity begins at home. You don't need to look far to really help someone, and it's not the bum on the corner holding a cardboard sign across the street from a business with "help wanted" sign in the window.
Sadly, I have discovered that these people exist in my very closely extended family. So, they are getting extra help this year.
Hey, I shovelled my neighbors sidewalk the other day. AND I salted both his and the next guy down the street too! I'm all about the helping!
(Sadly, I don't donate money at the holidays. You know why? Because I donate to my charities every fucking month of the year, not just when it's fashionable to do so. Just like I root for the Detroit Lions even when they suck. I'm no fair-weather anything. Heh.)

I'm with Iki. It's an all year thing, not a holiday thing. Good for folks who *do* give at the holidays. Every little bit helps, every little day. But if I want to buy you a present for Christmas, I will dammit. And you'll like it, too. If that makes me greedy and materialistic, then color me bad.
