Ain't too proud to beg.
Today is different.
Today I am asking you to help me save Bourbon Street.
Unless you are emerging from several days of life under a rock you are well aware of the disaster that has devastated New Orleans. There are stories everywhere, images everywhere, pleas for help...everywhere.
The city needs our help.
My help...your help...and the help of the shmoe sitting next to you.
So here is my request of you today:
- Go to the RedCross website and donate something, anything. I would be thrilled if every person that reads this blog donated $5 before the week is over.
- Go home and go through your closets and cupboards. What do you have that you can give up? Extra jackets, shirts, pants? Wallets, purses, briefcases? How about some blankets that you don't use anymore, that spare set of dishes that you never use or some canned goods from your pantry? Bag it up and donate it.
- If you have a website, post this same request on it and beg YOUR readers to step up to the plate and help one of this countries most amazing cities get back on its feet.
I hate to sound like an ass but this is my blog so here is my last and final (and very ranty) request:
I do not want to see a long ass list of comments commending me for my post or sharing the shock of the size of the disaster. I want comments that say "Hey KathyHowe! I clicked on the RedCross link and donated $5." or "I am leaving my house right scratchafriggenNOW and going to buy non-perishable food items to donate."
Do not bother leaving a comment on this post unless you actually DO something to help New Orleans. I don't want a bunch of wishy washy heartfelt support comments sending loving hugs and prayers to New Orleans. That does NOT put food on the table and it does NOT keep small children that just lost EVERYTHING warm at night. Pray your ass off while you click on the link to donate whatever you can afford, send warm fuzzy thoughts after you send food, light a candle AFTER you get off your ass and DO something.
Please?

HEY KATHY HOWE!
I donated $5 to the Red Cross. It took FOR.FREAKING.EVER for the Red Cross website to load but it was worth the wait.
Tonight I'm going to finish bagging up the kids summer clothes that won't fit them next year, my old clothes and household goods that we just really do not need anymore and get it all donated to the Salvation Army. I'm also going to call my family members and tell them that if they bag their stuff up I'll come get it and drop it off for them.
I have every intention of making a donation as soon as I hear about an animal shelter helping the poor lost/homless animals. The red cross will get plenty of money, it's the animals I'm worried about.
I like your way of thinking, Kathy Howe. I sent money yesterday, and helped my mom find out how to send a check to the Red Cross (she won't do on-line donations). At work we are organizing to help people who came to the Houston area to evacuate before the storm. We are being asked to open our houses to these people and we're glad to do it (it's not totally organized yet). The Superdome crowd is being moved here to the Astrodome too and we are donating clothing and food. It could easily be us in the same situation.
money sent... blood withdraw scheduled. because it was a good reminder to do that one!

Done and more. You ask so nicely, Ms. Kathy...
Even though I'm all donated out because of the recent disaster that almost wiped out my freaking house two weeks ago... I donated AGAIN. Mainly because I've partied there. :)
And as they've been saying all day long on the radio around here, "May there be a special place in Hell for the scumbags who are looting New Orleans."
I donated through Habitat for Humanity this morning. Pixie...check out the Humane Society site, I saw that they were collecting money for the homeless animals from Katrina.
Great! Done!
My husband and I made a very sizeable donation [the largest amount of money we've ever given away] to The Baton Rouge Area Foundation's 2 funds set up for immediate assistance for victims of Katrina and for rebuilding afterwards. They can be found at www.braf.org
Thanks, I found the humane society on my own. I'm such a twit. It finally occured to me to google help animals katrina. Lo and behold the humane society shows up. I promptly donate $50 and put immediate links up on my blog. I will give to th red cross as well, but I'm a sucker for a fuzzy face
Have already done some, and plan to do more. I'll be in Houston next week and am hoping to lend an able body if needed.
One thing to note. At this point in the relief/recovery process, donations of clothing and material goods are less helpful than you might think. They need cash. They need non-perishable food. They need water.
It's up to us.
Already done, but you did give me the idea to put a big ass link in my sidebar.
Just donated $20.00- wish I could do more but I could barely do that. I wish I could physically help as well. Thanks for the reminder- hope all you bloggers get it out there as well.
I donated to Habitat for Humanity, then had a long talk with my sons about what they could do. They discussed it very seriously (as only 5 and 7 year olds can do) and decided to donate they're allowance money. I'm so proud.
